Angie Hart

ANGIE HART ANNOUNCES NATIONAL TOUR

The last twelve months have witnessed a significant change of gears for Angie Hart. After a relatively quietly decade based in Los Angeles, Angie (yes, she of Frente fame, member of Splendid, guest of Holidays on Ice) returned to her hometown of Melbourne at the end of 2005 to begin work in earnest on her first solo long player, 'Grounded Bird'.

Produced by Justyn Pilbrow, 'Grounded Bird' exceeded expectations in its breadth of musical scope and ambition. Rather than re-tread her musical steps, Angie sought pastures new, writing with a swag of very highly regarded collaborators (Ben Lee, Craig Ross, Dean Manning and Dan Luscombe amongst others) and tackling issues of struggle, change and transformation within the challenging confines of the pop song.

With unanimous critical acclaim and a phone book's worth of key print features, radio interviews and TV appearances, 'Grounded Bird' has rightly placed Angie back into the fold as one of Australia's best loved singers and most respected songwriters.

Having travelled the East Coast sporadically with shows over the last six months, this February and March, Angie is thrilled to announce a full national tour, where she will be visiting all capital cities and finding time to visit many key regional spots too. It's pleasing to note that the likes of APRA and Port Fairy Folk Festival have also recognized Angie's considerable skills as a songwriter, and have invited Angie to take part in songwriting workshops in Adelaide as part of the Fuse Songwriting Workshop and also at Port Fairy Folk Festival.

Blue Shaddy - Bury My GhostWestern Australian outfit Blue Shaddy have started to attract a lot of positive national attention in the last year.  Reaching number 1 on the Perth Indie Charts in May 07, the band also received a Best Instrumentalist Award (Belly McClelland) at the 2007 Blues at Broadbeach Awards in the same month, and then in November took out the 2007 MusicOz Blues & Roots Artist.  Plus, the word of mouth on their amazing live show saw Blue Shaddy gain invitations to most of the major music festivals on offer.

Early 2008, and that attention is set to grow further, with Blue Shaddy releasing Bury My Ghost, their fourth album and best yet.  The first single from the album, West Australian Sun is being released to radio in early February, but the album is available in all good record stores now.

The band are doing a run of WA shows in February to launch the CD.  Don’t miss them.

THE WOODENELVES RELEASE SECOND SINGLE AHEAD OF INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Ahead of their first Australian tour and an appearance at an international music festival, Perth rock/pop band The Woodenelves are releasing the second single off their debut album Trips Between Worlds.

The new single, Gotta Get Back, also features on this year’s Kiss My WAMi compilation CD-DVD distributed as part of the WA Music Industry’s annual WAMi Festival and the latest series of the national Sounds Like Café compilation CD.

The release of Gotta Get Back comes just before The Woodenelves hit the road for their first national tour and to perform, on invitation, at Canadian Music Week in Toronto (March 5-8).

The first stop on their Australian tour is Adelaide where they’ll be playing on February 28 as part of the city’s annual Fuse Festival.

“We’ve heard awesome things about Fuse Festival from many people in the music industry so we’re really thrilled to be part of it this year and the timing worked out perfectly for us,” he said.

Following their appearance at Fuse, The Woodenelves will play gigs in Melbourne and Sydney.

Caudle said the band was eager to venture out of Perth after gigging heavily in their home town, following the release of their album (recorded at Spacejunk Production House with Tim Powles, drummer of The Church) in May.

“We were in Melbourne in 2006 when we were the house band on Rove and we played an acoustic gig in Sydney that year also for the Australian Songwriters Association’s annual awards night, but this is the first time we’ve played full gigs outside of Perth, so we can’t wait,” he said.

From Sydney, they head to Toronto for Canadian Music Week which has previously featured acts including Wolfmother, Ben Lee and Tegan & Sara and in 2008 will feature The Hives, Moby, Hilltop Hoods, and Alanis Morrissette.

“Needless to say, we’re really looking forward to playing at Canadian Music Week and soaking up the atmosphere of the Festival and also the music business conference that happens as part of it,” Caudle said.

The Woodenelves’ final gig before they go is a Farewell Fundraiser on Sunday February 24 at The Paddington Ale House in Mount Hawthorn. Entry is $10.

Since releasing their album in May 2007, The Woodenelves have landed supports with Triple J favourites British India, You Am I’s Tim Rogers, Jimmy Barnes, Hinder, The Black Crowes and former Frente frontwoman Angie Hart.

ZydecatsLOCAL MUSICIANS ROCK FOR MELANOMA RESEARCH

Several members of legendary local swing-roots act Zydecats will hit the stage with special guests in a fundraising first for a local charity dedicated to skin cancer research.

The long-time swingers will be joined by front man Bill Rogers’ three daughters and renowned blues keyboard player Bob Patient for this special night of live music and dancing in Cottesloe.

The super-group will combine on Thursday December 13 to raise vital funds for the Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre, founded by the Kirkbride family after Scott lost his battle with melanoma at the age of 27.

Mr Rogers said his family had been close friends with the Kirkbride family for decades and wanted to help the Centre continue its important work.

“Along with my family, I wanted to celebrate Scott's memory and the wonderful work being done at the Centre, so as a musician with talented daughters, I felt we could help by staging a night of hot fun in the summertime, giving everyone a chance to enjoy themselves and contribute,” he said.

“We are aiming to boost awareness of the dangers of skin cancer especially among young West Australians and raise as much as we can for the Centre through ticket sales and raffles on the night.”

Mr Rogers said with the help of their special guests, the band would serve up three sets of good time music – hits that people know and love to sing along and dance to.

“We will play two sets of soul hits with the help of Bob’s amazing keys and the girls’ stunning voices and top off the night with a set of great rock ‘n’ roll hits to get everyone moving,” he said.

Scott’s mother Yvonne Kirkbride said she was extremely thankful for Bill Rogers support and to the band for putting the event together, and was looking forward to a fantastic night.

“Bill Rogers and the band have shaped this fundraiser into a brilliant event and we’re so grateful for this amazing support and generosity,” she said.

Brothers and Sisters Rock n Soul Show will take to the stage at the Cottesloe Golf Club for the Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre on Thursday December 13 at 7.00pm.

All proceeds go to melanoma research.

Tickets are limited. For further information and bookings, please contact Yvonne Kirkbride on (08) 9224 0324 or by email toyvonnek@waimr.uwa.edu.au
