WA Gig Guide Interview/Review

Elora Danan

Elora Danan

No words can describe it as it is one of the best gigs I have seen. These guys have it all, the rocking tunes, with punching vocal lines and a lot of hooks to catch the already biting audience. The crowd got what they wanted; a musical punch in the face and everyone wants more.

Every song that the Elora Danan pushed out was amazing and from the expression from the crowds face they loved every single moment of it. With a stand-out single release ‘Door, Up, Elevator’ which they played flawlessly and powering through the performance with confidence and professionalism.

Holding Your Heads in Our Hands’ Proved to be the icing on the cake with an extremely strong tight finish. A genuine 100 percent performance.  Elora Danan really showed what they are made of, one of the most tight, alternative rock bands made of five short men and one large bald guy as they would say who know how to rock everyone’s socks off!

After this performance it is really no surprise that these guys are one of the hottest Perth Bands so if you get a chance to see them play at any venue at any time go down to support them, it will defiantly make your night complete.

Tell us about Elora Danan.

Elora Danan. An ensemble of five short men and one large bald guy. We all love music and despise the music industry. Not the people who work for the industry, just the way the industry works. Our beginnings were fairy tale worthy with all our initial meetings driven by fate more than coincidence. Delve Deeper? No, I dont want to, it's along and slightly arduous story. Elora Danan. Five Short men, One large bald guy.

After finishing recording your debut Album, you hit the road with Unwritten Law, how was it for your first international support tour?

It was fairly unusual. From the Get go we weren't really sure what to expect given the odd genre differences between them and us. After Show two or three it dawned on us that doing a tour with a band of that stature, one which held a fan base of supporters who more than likely had never heard of our band, would become a little depressing. While it was great to spend a month on the road with a band whose trail of rock trophies towered over ours it was fairly hard to keep the moral up when 95% of the crowd didn’t care about what we had to say or show. As For U.L. they were cool, considering who they were, their history in the scene, they were really decent guys, Sprung Monkey too. We were most impressed with The way the lads lived up to the rock'n'roll Cliche' - SEX DRUGS ROCK'N'ROLL...  They made us look like catholic school boys. I tip my hat to them for that, 35 and going strong.

What inspired the concept and creation of your latest single "Door, Up, Elevator"?

The original idea for that song has a funnily interesting story attached. Jay (Drummer) and I had planned a trip to Pemberton To do some bonding, stay the weekend in a Chalet, and write music. We arrived at our accommodation, I forget what it was called, it turned out the place we had chosen to stay was hosting a mini getaway type thing for homosexual couples (I still think jay planned the thing without telling me) so anyways, we rocked up saw little posters on the reception wall and kind of felt a little out of place the reception girl asked if we were there for the weekend getaway, we politely assisted others and she sent us on our way, beautiful log cabin, warm and cozy, it was nice... long story short we spent a weekend inside our room trying writing music, we didn’t really interact with anyone, not because we are homophobic or anything, we just don’t like the idea of getting bummed. So, a weekend alone with Jay, 40 or so gay couples, a Log cabin. The Result - Door Up Elevator.

Tell us about your Album "In the room up there" that’s going to be released in February?

It’s Gonna be good.

No, I lie. I don’t know if the general public is going to like the CD. I honestly don’t care either. I know that we as a band committed as much creative energy as we could for this CD and it resulted in a CD and we, all six of us are exceptionally happy with. "In the room up there" - it may not sell thousands of copies but at least we have peace of mind knowing we gave it our all.

After touring the East Coast what’s next on the agenda for Elora Danan?

I want to go to a day spa. As For ED, all we really are trying achieve in the year to come is tour, tour, tour. Once finished The DOOR UP single tour we come back, rest up then start the writing process for album no 2.
