These guys defiantly know how to put on a show and rock the house down. The Seven-piece screamo rock band started the night with an intense set of experimental music, pleasing the crowd with the way they worked the stage. Their stamina onstage was a welcome build-up, and the highlight of which being their vocalist’s powerful performance at the centre of it all.
WATE created cohesive and catchy music that challenges modern conceptions of listening ability and standard song-structures without seeming too facetious. The crowd got into the track “Sorry Honey, This City Has a Limit” feeling the tight beats, however their older songs like “Drop Me off at the Bridge” defiantly banged harder.
Ryan is a screamo supremo and absolutely amazing at what he does. With such Potent screaming he really does put a lot of other throat singers to shame! The band proceeded to belt out song after song with a quality performance from all players. Overall the night was absolutely fantastic and these guys are a must see, if you have not seen them you are missing out!

Tell us about We are the Emergency.
We are a bunch of dudes plus one lovely lady who love to play some rocking tunes and have a good time doing so!
While over in the United States working on your EP with producer Kris Crummet who has also worked with other great bands, how would you describe your time and experience recording with Kris?
Working with Kris was an amazing opportunity, from the word go you could see why this guy is so sought after by people. He's got a great love for what he does, and he's just the most down to earth person. I've heard horror stories of bands recording with producers and how they've turned out to be complete douche bags, but Kris was just so laid back it made for a great environment to record in, he really pushed us to get the best performance's out of everyone.
The studio was in a small two or three room unit at the back of this house in suburban Hillsboro, so we'd just hang out there drink beers and play basketball in the front yard if we weren't tracking.
The trip in itself was just a great thing for us as a band, because we all come from very different scenes, and here we were thrown together in two hotel rooms for the better part of a month. It really sort of makes you see all of these different sides to each other that you don’t usually get to see when you're rehearsing at home a few times a week. I think we're a lot tighter as a group because of it.

You recently played with Escape the Fate and at Hyperfest, what was it like performing with international and Australian wide bands?
Escape The Fate was huge for us, that were the first time we've done something like that and to have such a great response from the crowd just blew us away! Usually when you're opening for an international act or someone from overeast the crowds aren’t really that interested in the support bands, but that crowd was really wild, the room was just packed out with kids going mental from the start. We’ve sorta started playing and turned around to this bouncing room of people and just kinda looked at each other like... f**k!
The dudes from ETF were great as well, weren’t too cool to talk to everyone and were just hanging out.
Hyperfest was the same deal, for smaller bands like ourselves to be put alongside some bands that are doing really well in the same sort of genre, like the getaway plan and Elora Danan, really give us a great opportunity to reach some kids that probably wouldn’t otherwise give us the time of day. It's definitely helped us a lot.
What is next on the agenda for WATE?
Next for us, well we're pretty much just focussing on the release of our EP at the moment which will be titled 'Seizure'. We've put so much work into this cd we're dying to get it out so people can hear exactly what we've been doing for the last 9 months. After that I'd say we'll probably taking our little circus over to the east coast to see whats up over there!
Being a successful Perth band, what are your opinions on the WA live
music scene?
Haha I wouldn't go as far as to say we're successful just yet! I think that the WA music scene is thriving, bands have to work so much harder to get noticed over here, and I think that inspires some really great music to come out of this city. You look at what’s come out of Perth in recent years, bands like Miles Away and Gyroscope who are jetting all over the world playing music and I think it really speaks for itself
