Lucid are a 4 piece original rock
band located in Perth. We caught up with Lucid whilst
they were performing at the Norfolk Hotel in Fremantle.
Lucid - what a great name for this
band, they really live up to it. David Saunders (lead
guitar) is equally at home with his electric or acoustic
guitar, we believe given more space on the stage David
would really go off, as he shows a lot of enthusiasm
for his craft. Full credit to David for providing a
clear forceful singing dynamo - where does the energy
come from!
We were not only inspired by the
music but by the lyrics which were clear and understandable,
hard to find that with a live performance. The energy
that oozes out of from Lucid draws the attention from
the crowd's ears; you could almost say that they are
serene in a sea of chaos.
Mixed up with the guys on stage is
Beth (base guitar), the latest addition to Lucid. Here
is a lady who knows her instrument and is obviously
passionate about it, we were very impressed with her
performance and we see her as an asset to the band.
To allow room for growth Ben the
brother of David stepped aside from base guitar to join
David in the electric guitar and you can hear that it
runs in the family. Now let's not forget Ollie on sticks,
pounding away on the drums tucked away in the backdrop
of Lucid his beat is to be commended for talent also.
If you want to see a superb performance
from yet another incredible Perth original band, don't
miss out on catching Lucid play. Check our guides for
their current gigs.

Tell us about the band Lucid.
We are a 4 piece rock band Australian
rock aiming towards a commercial market, we've been
together for 3 years, but in the last 2 weeks we've
had a fresh line up, my brother Ben used to play base
but now he's on guitar, our newest member Ruth is playing
base for us now and Ollie's our drummer.
Where do you think the rock industry
in Perth is heading?
It's been hard to find rock in Perth
for over ten years really, it's mainly indi rock, and
it's pretty hard when you love rock and you want to
play rock and there's not much about. There's not much
opportunity, I believe for a rock outfit in Perth, everything's
very indi pop sort of. Every band we've seen we haven't
seen anything with the same genre as us, that might
be a good thing or bad thing. I reckon it's a good thing.
Do Lucid have any albums out?
We have a live style CD that was
released September of last year. We had a CD launch
that was pretty big we probably sold 300 to 400 CDs,
and given away close to a couple of hundred.
When can we expect the next one?
We're recording at the moment, and
hope to release an EP sometime this year, we're doing
it with Eddie Percy (ex Baby Animals base player) and
hopefully it'll make us sound good, not that we don't
sound good already.
Where do you see Lucid in the
next couple of years?
Drinking on the beach
nah, since
we started 3 years ago we've always been on an uphill
slant, so we just want to keep climbing and hopefully
we can get support for the EP we are going to release
from Triple J or Nova or something like that, we something
like that with good quality recording, the live thing
was a one off thing that we did and it sounded good
so we decided to flog it off as a CD. We are trying
to get this CD out spend some more money on it and see
what happens from there, hopefully get some distribution
and some air play.
