STU ORCHARD
a great piece of Australiana’ – Eddie Vedder
Stu Orchard is a classic showman - he loves to lift spirits and capture your heart. A man of many smocks; throw-yourself-against-a-wall rock’n’roll to heart-wrenching ballads, smooth-grooves to foot-stomping, hand-clapping celebrations. Stuart writes, records and performs in a variety of forms and now incorporates the keys into his live sound.
He moved to Melbourne in 2001 to begin earning his stripes as a gigging songwriter and recorded his debut EP ‘Delinquent’ in 2003.
Using the EP as his launch pad, Stu began touring his music across the country. Settling briefly in Brisbane’s erupting underground music scene, he became a regular in some of the areas most popular venues, including the Tongue’n’Groove and a residency at Number Twelve.
Returning to Melbourne in 2004, he recorded his second EP ‘Beautiful Bastard’. Stu thrived in the culture of Australia’s music capital, performing in iconic Melbourne venues such as St Kilda’s Esplanade Hotel where he was filmed as a feature for Melbourne television. By this time, his recordings were gaining regular airplay on local radio. In just a short time on the professional circuit, Stu has performances with Dave Graney, Bob Evans, Blue Line Medic, Lloyd Spiegel and Skunkhour under his belt and collaborated in writing and performing for the Tropfest semi-finalist ‘Cold Feet’.
Stu has now brought his unique brand of song-writing and unpredictable excitement back to his home town of Perth. His open-mind and creative edge allow him to flow effortlessly between styles and line-ups and it is that experimental attitude that will ensure Stu Orchard will never be classed and always be looking to challenge both himself and his fans.
On any given night his performance could include everything from beatboxing to didgeridoo, rapping to violin, a thumping dance track, or spine tingling piano rumblings – anything is possible.
Most recently, Stu can be seen performing in Perth / Fremantle venues such as Amplifier, The Rosemount, Mojos and special events including The Walk Against Warming Rally and the West Coast Blues n Roots Festival, whilst working on his debut album and new EP ‘In the Tropics’ which came out in March 2007.
