Sultry, smooth and a little bit sassy, Nicola Milan has a voice you will remember. Instantly likeable for its velvety, mellow timbre this talented Perth vocalist, songwriter and multi instrumentalist has a three and a half octave range and amazing vocal control, allowing her to sing everything from laid back bossas through to upbeat funk and soul.
Her style has been likened to Norah Jones crossed with Diana Krall; laid back Latin next to cheeky swing and all fearlessly improvised. Nicola’s compositions invite you into a web of emotive lyrical content and lingering melodies while her interpretations of well known jazz classics are delivered with passion and creativity.
When Ms Milan released her debut single “Take Your Chances” in 2010, its quirky and alluring sound quickly gained attention with the song being featured in the feature length indie film “Kittens of Woodlake”. The song was then selected to showcase at the 2011 WAMi Festival Licensing Pitch Panel.
Nicola is also known for her composition of the sound track for the popular web series “Flatmates” and will be releasing her first music video for her song “Just A Kiss” as well as recording her EP later this year.
Nicola has performed at venues in Perth including The Ellington Jazz Club, Jazz Fremantle, Kulcha and lent her vocals to performances for the Sugar Blue Burlesque Dance Troupe’s “Black Market Cabaret”.
Nicola is also a skilled cartoonist and co-author of the hilarious “Monster in Law: A Survival Guide” about to be published by Vanguard Press, UK.
