Biography

Natalie D-Napoleon - After the Flood

When it came time to write for her most recent recorded venture, After the Flood, Australian singer-songwriter, Natalie D-Napoleon, was well placed to ponder life. And not just because, when she sits on the balcony of her Perth apartment with her guitar and inspiration, she overlooks the bustling happenings of daily life and all of its infinite possibilities.

Nor was it due to the fact that she had recently come to terms with a broken heart - an experience that has seen her grow and mature while also giving rise to some of the most inspired and heart-wrenching songs the Australian musician has ever composed. It has more to do with the myriad of influences that work their way into both her heart and soul and so passionately inspires her muse. But, for Natalie, life has always been like that . . .

Ever since a steel string acoustic guitar entered her life at the tender age of fifteen, Natalie has ardently chartered a wondrous musical course. Whilst in the throws of alternative-rock darlings Bloom, a Western Australian Music Industry Award for Most Promising New Band quickly launched Natalie on her musical way.

After crossing paths with former Month of Sundays lead guitarist Grant Ferstat, Bloom soon gave way to Flavour of the Month. The duo toured both Europe and the United States and released the critically acclaimed Fear of Fearing. For five years D-Napoleon and Ferstat delighted both fans and critics a like with their languid roots-tinged ballads before Natalie decided to redirect her musical talents into the realm of a serious solo artist.

During her time in the music industry, Natalie has been heard singing on the Jayco Brothers Asbestos Fibro, Dom Mariani's Road to Rome, and Joe Algeri's Ten Thousand Sunny Days. But, more importantly of late, she has been writing and recording a new offering of her own material. And these songs have recently emerged as a five-track recording appropriately titled After the Flood.

The recording serves as the perfect prelude to a full-length album Natalie will record in early 2008. With the past three months seeing her writing and performing the world over, her return to Perth to record will no doubt offer this remarkable singer-songwriter the perfect opportunity to contemplate the experiences that befell her.

With a recent tour through the United States to launch "After After Flood" - that featured the likes of Kenny Edwards (of the legendary Stone Poney's) and Julie Christensen (Leonard Cohen's long-time backing vocalist) lending a hand - when Natalie finally does return to Perth, her current adventures will no doubt ensure that the view from that balcony will be a whole lot wider.
