A self declared hairbrush singer from an early age, Michelle's first love has always been music. Learning the standard alto recorder, piano and flute in primary school, Michelle learnt quite quickly that sheet music wasn't for her & spent most of the time playing by ear.
Music was prevalent in the home life, growing up with everything from the Beatles, to ABBA, Creedence Clearwater, Elvis and Nancy Sinatra Michelle couldn't help but sing along.
In 1995 Michelle moved to Albany, where she picked up the guitar for the first time, which was a godsend as Michelle's instrument of choice was always her voice. It was here she met her first fellow band members while completing a Diploma in Horticulture at great southern regional TAFE. While working at the Premier Hotel as a barmaid & occasional singer (while then emerging Waifs played in the animal bar), Michelle performed as lead vocalist. Teaching herself to play by listening to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Hole and Elastica Michelle slowly picked up the basic techniques as a rhythm guitarist.
In 1996, Michelle moved back to perth & joined several bands as a lead singer to no avail, finding it hard to meet people with the same dedication and tenacity. Michelle's career took a new turn when she finally quit her full time marketing job to develop her guitar skills & work on a solo career. With her artistic skills Michelle developed an income which soon took over as her major focus & she left her musical dreams on the back seat, restricted to parties, campfires & of late performing at her art exhibitions. 10 years down the track, Michelle has now turned her attention back to the inspiration that inspired her artistic career. MUSIC.
An avid fan of live music, Michelle is greatly influenced by the soul of the Creedence Clearwater, harmonies of The Beatles, the raw energy of Nirvana, Pearl Jam & Hole, the melodies of Coldplay, Frente & The Waifs, the uniqueness of the Chilli Peppers, Garbage, Janes Addiction & The Violent Femmes and the pure talent of Jeff Buckley.
Committing herself by acquiring the necessary equipment & developing a set list rich in the music she loves, Michelle has since performed at various venues to develop her performance skills. Playing live gigs during her travels with her art exhibitions throughout Western Australia, Michelle has performed from the Dampier Sailing Club & Whim Creek Hotel in the remote north west of Western Australia, to further south in Monkey Mia, Cataby Roadhouse (at which she now plays at regularly), Tropicana's Beach Cafe & ACDC Art Gallery in Geraldton, Paddy's Irish pub in Kalgoorlie, Victoria Park Art Centre , Pelicans Cafe & The Purple Goat Cafe in Perth with enthusiastic feedback.
Now based in Perth, Michelle plays at The Purple Goat Cafe in Waterman on Mondays, & Fridays with her originals & a plethora of left of the middle classic tunes. She is currently recording her original music.
