Reviews:
• Gerard and his band just blew me away. Long, knee-length 'Dreads', perfectly tuned voice & guitar, the attractive back-up singer who harmonized to perfection, a mind-bending drummer that did much more then keep time and their ho-ho jolly bassist who kept my pulse a racing from beginning to end... just unforgettable. (Rhythm and Blues Magazine Sept 2008)
• Always a crowd pleaser, Gerard Maunick and the house band jammed out some reggae, rock and blues numbers. Some highlights of the set included South Bound, Back to the Crossroads, a rolling blues tune which drew a large crowd to the dance floor and Suzy Q. The 12 bar blues shuffle that is Across the Border illuminated Gerard’s mastery over the guitar. Rumour has it that Gerard was busy in the studio, recording his latest album due for release soon. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. (GUITAR - Festival of Fret)
• Songwriter/Singer/Guitarist Gerard Maunick breaks all Musical Barriers with his latest CDs, Soul Kreol and Voodoo Brew. His live performance will leave you spellbound. (WAMI - West Australian Music Industry Awards)
• Gerard Maunick and band opened proceedings with a set that trod the muddy road between swampy rock and blues to funky soul and Creole, with Gerard’s feel-drenched guitar and soulful voice guiding the rhythm section that was tighter than tight while absolutely grooving. The lovely Tina-Simone joined the band on vocals and percussion, the harmonies riding over a sublime musical performance. Gerard is a master of his art, and his set showed the master in control of every facet of his music. The warm and human vibe exuded by the Gerard Maunick Band filled the room, and set the stage for the rest of the night. (www.guitargods.com.au)
• For a man who has been likened to Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix it is perhaps hard to live up to such bold claims. But one listen to his song ‘War’ on his cd ‘Voodoo Brew’ has you almost believing it. It’s not just the deep, deep reggae feel or the anti war sentiments that mirror those two greats, perhaps it’s Gerard’s compassion for the common man that oozes through his music. "I’m a great believer in people," intones Gerard in his clipped Mauritian patois, "people can sense if you’re playing from the heart. They appreciate it." (Groove Magazine)
• Gerard Maunick is a quality act. The Band are tight, powerful and an explosive force. A magical blend of vocals, guitar and a touch of island grooves. Gerard with his Creole girl Tina-Simone, deliver a harmonic adventure to their songs as 'BLUES FUSES SOUL and ROCK MEETS KREOL'. Born on neighboring islands of the Indian Ocean (Tina-Simone was born in the Seychelles), the 'couple' deliver a warm respect for their roots-music culture that leaves your mind and body swaying. With the deep vocal tones and percussion 'feels' from Tina-Simone, energized by guitar riffs and the melodic sounds (& a voice to die for) from Gerard makes 'The Gerard Maunick Band' a performance never to be missed.
