Historians have long pondered the origin
of the Medina Sound. Just as the Mississippi Delta spawned
the blues and the Mersey gave rise to the Beatles, so
a steaming hotbed of creativity flourished at the confluence
of Thomas Road and Medina Avenue. Pioneers of the style,
such as The Lost Dogs and Dangerbyrd, created a unique
fusion of improvised musicianship and blown speakers
that went on to influence better known artists such
as Felix Rodriguez and Dave James.
Buffered from the industrial influences
of Kwinana Beach, an organic sound emerged in the early
part of the century, which the locals would play to
accompany their bizarre pastime of alligator wrestling.
Though the alligators are now extinct, the music lives
on, as performed by these youngsters, The Fabulous FyshwickBrothers.
